The Southern Corridor

Our day begins with a scenic commentary tour along the Southern Corridor of Cairns into the Cassowary Coast. Traversing the Great Dividing Range, one of the most scenic drives in Tropical Far North Queensland. Passing through Gordonvale, historic sugar cane farms, crossing epic rivers and freshwater creeks with a view of the majestic Walsh’s Pyramid all with the tropical green backdrop of the Wet Tropics Rainforest.

Josephine Falls

Located at the base of Queensland’s highest mountain Bartle Frere into the world heritage Wet Tropics Rainforest within the Wooroonooran National Park. Enjoy the interpretive guided Rainforest walk into a beautiful cascade of waterfalls. Learn of the endemic species of flora and fauna, and immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of the biodiversity of the rainforest. Walk the path of the Noongyonbudda Ngadjon people and learn the significance of bush tucker, medicines, and cultural significance. Guests have the option to enjoy a short swim.

Innisfail

On this scenic drive of the Cassowary Coast learn of the important industry of Sugar Cane and Bananas, and engage in comprehensive commentary of the agricultural industry. Innisfail is the heart of the Cassowary Coast, a historic agricultural town with a facade of original art deco buildings rich European culture and pioneer history. Stopping briefly outside the town library to view for a photographic collage of the Cassowary Coast titled ” From the Range to the Reef” our special place.

Goondoi Culture Tour

Arrive at Goondoi wetlands for the Cassowary Dreamtime Tour. Meet the Traditional Custodians of lands belonging to the Dyirribarra and Bagirbarra people. Welcomed by Goondoi Culture Tours to embark on a cultural experience. Embrace the welcome to Country Ceremony with traditional Dance, learn about the Dreamtime story of the Cassowary, and journey on a guided walk through the Wetlands to learn about bush foods, traditional knowledge of sacred trees, Juwumba, Milbur and Jugurru. Learn the art of weaving, sand art, language and dance. Guests enjoy a freshly prepared lunch of tropical fruits, sandwiches and cold drinks provided by Radiant Life College.

Etty Bay

Continue South to the scenic town of Mourilyan via Mourilyan Harbour to see the major sugar export facility. As we continue the journey traversing the Moresby Range National Park with scenic views across the Wet Lands of East Innisfail and opportunities to view the Southern Cassowary wandering through its natural habitat before we arrive at Etty Bay. Enjoy a beach walk and the opportunity to see the Cassowary in its natural environment. Etty Bay is one of the few places in the world where you can view Cassowary’s walking along the beach. Guides provide insightful knowledge of the behaviors and characteristics of the Cassowary and its importance to the ecosystem and biodiversity of the rainforest. This is the opportunity to remove your shoes, wet your feet and walk on the golden sands where the “Range meets the Reef”.

Babinda Boulders

Our last destination for the day we explore the junction of two creeks from Queensland’s Highest mountain, Chooreechillum (Bartle Frere). Enjoy a swim within a rainforest setting and learn about the infamous Devil’s Pools. Learn of the traditional custodians Wanjurr Majay the significant cultural importance of resources and the Dreamtime story. Relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee served with locally baked cake or slice prepared by your guide.
